Choose either the concept of cultural diffusion (voluntary/consented change in culture)or cultural imperialism (enforced/pressured change in culture) and using specific examples explain how transnational corporations either intentionally or unintentionally spread consumerism through your chosen concept.

Cultural Diffusion: There are two types of cultural diffusion one is called forced diffusion and the other is called Direct diffusion. I will first talk about forced diffusion as its name is exactly what it means. Basically forced diffusion is when one culture inflicts its culture on another and more likely then not uses its power in the army to do so. An example of this would be the Spaniards as they went to the Philippines to convert most of the Filipinos to Catholicism.

The other type of cultural diffusion is Direct diffusion when neighboring cultures tend to interact with each other due to factors like "trade" for example. Over time their cultures start to diffuse together and create a mixture of both cultures. An example of this would be the diversification of food in the countries where the silk road passes through.

When cultural diffusion occurs things like: Language, Dance, Music, Food, Religion, Dress, Art, Sports and many more can change.

An example of a company whose products have diffused in many different cultures are the companies that make instant ramen. Instant ramen created in Japan has been known to be a staple of college daily food.
