views of aid

1. Why have some countries donated more in aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan than others?

Some countries donate more than other countries because first of all they are most likely to have more money than other countries. 2nd allied nation would more likely to give more money than other nations not in the same ally. Lastly if countries have had a good relationship with a country for a long time and have a good business like trade then those countries will most likely donate more.

2. How does the aid being sent to victims of Typhoon Haiyan represent the following:

altruism: We often see the bad in people most of the time, and in times of calamity we see the good in them. Most countries and organization even individuals are doing everything and anything they can to be able to provide aid to the victims of typhoon Haiyan that struck the Philippines just last week. We are given the information by our news stations that groups from different schools, celebrities, even the NBA is helping out.

geopolitics: Aid from different countries can vary due to conflict that countries face. At this moment "The two countries are embroiled in a long-standing dispute over islands in the strategically vital South China Sea." It is said that if China does not donate to the Philippines then the image of their country will be affected negatively, however the fact that China only donated $100,000 to the Philippines is a bit offensive and it does not affect their image positively what so ever, in face it makes the country seem forced to donate to the Philippines.

neo-colonialism? The amount of money given by different countries usually always have more of a purpose then what meets the eye. America and the Philippines have always had a good relationship aside from the American-Philippine war. Having the stereotype given to the american government i believe that they want more out of the Philippines, whether it be using the Philippines as a base for soldiers or as a stop over in case of a world war.
