Off-shoring risk' to thousands of council jobs
A company called Service Birmingham is going to off-shore 70 IT jobs to India. Unite Union says its "outrageous" because the council workers might have to train the workers where their jobs will be off-shored in which basically means that they will be training someone to take over the jobs, which means they will loose their jobs in the future. In general we know that lots of companies in Europe and America are not looking to off-shore jobs to developing countries which creates thousands of jobs in the chosen off-shored location however it results in the homeland employees loosing their jobs and becoming unemployed. Companies do this to save costs due to the fact that wages are lower. \

How does this relate to growing disparities between the rich and the poor?
How do you think ICT plays a role in growing outsourcing and off-shoring of nations using the example given?
You're really trying to set your reader up here eh? All right, I'll bite. ICT plays a role because without ICT, none of the costumer service/call center work could operate on the scale it current does. Companies would not even consider offshoring because it would be too expensive. With the advent of the internet, high speed communications technology, the ever shrinking transistor, improvements in technology infrastructure, and much more, it is now more cost effective to use ICT to outsource internationally/offshore. In this specific case, what you have is an incredibly desirable situation in place where it simply makes more economic sense to send the British jobs overseas to India. The argument however, is whether or not this violates union laws which is why unions are set up in the first place: to protect worker rights.
