PROS
1. Wide range of access to products world wide. In the past ordering online was unheard off. Now it is simply part of culture.
2. Has helped to produce greater technology. For example: Tech companies have been buying or merging together to have a bigger Research and Development department that works on future technology.
3. Many jobs are created by Trans national Corporation. For example: Tech giant Apple has a massive factory in China which created thousands of Jobs, and has helped boost up China's economy.
4. Allows us to meet and learn about new cultures and new languages through social net working sites. For example: Facebook has allowed us to keep in contact with our friends who have traveled around the world. These friends can give information about the culture of places they have been to.
5. Trans National corporations keep competing with each other and therefore it causes inflation to be low.
For example: Coca Cola and Pepsi have been the biggest rivals when it comes to soda beverages, and as they continue to compete for the top spot in terms of profitability, their prices should remain low to attract more consumers.
CONS
1. Widen the gap between the rich and the poor. Example: As corporations get bigger in developed nation they would want to move to a developing nation due to the fact that wages are lower. Therefore as they leave their develop nation they also leave their employees. As they enter the developing nation whose wages are lower these Corporations become richer.

2. Some Trans National Corporations exploit the needs of jobs in third world countries. Example: Corporations know that people in third world countries need jobs, and they know some are desperate therefore some are given very poor working conditions.
3. Loss of culture. Example: As the influence of the American Media continue to spread around the world, cultures can be loss due to Americanization.
4. Globalization is also leading to the incursion of communicable diseases. Deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS are being spread through Social networking sites, or websites.
5. Social networking sites has caused our society to become less social. For example: The phrase "Together Alone" means that we are all together in one location, but we are either on our phones, or emailing, or on social networking sites.

I liked your last point on how social networking sites can actually make us less social. This is something that I did not think about, but it makes a lot of sense and is very evident in our lives today. I think there is value in connecting people with social media, but when we are "together alone" it actually puts a strain on our relationships.
ReplyDeleteYour points are clear and concise; I like how you mentioned inflation and online shopping. These are very true and key points of globalization. I don't really agree with the creation of disparities between the rich and the poor; it can be argued both ways. The same goes for your last point- if anything globalization increases one's social life in whatever manner or form.
ReplyDeleteI'm slightly confused about what you mean when you say that STDs are being spread through social networking sites. Why would the old fashion way of meeting people be any safer?
ReplyDeletei guess what i mean is that now that the internet is most accessible by anyone, it also allows more access to things like prostitution, therefore can create a domino effect and lead to growing STD's.
